There are many Web Stress testing solutions out there today, but recently on a project I was looking for an easy to use and quick to set up solution that also doesn't cost an arm and a leg. You can also manually create requests as plain HTTP headers using text which is easy to automate, or create by hand. The tool provides a built-in capture tool with a number of nice options to capture just the content you're interested in, or you can use Fiddler exports. You can capture HTTP requests - Web browser requests, AJAX, REST and SOAP requests - and play them back under load.
